This unfinished synopsis was originally going to be distributed to one of my favorite traditional publishing companies {name withheld :) }, but, for a number of reasons, I decided not to submit my novel and proceeded with independent self-publishing.
Do I regret not sending my draft to the publishing company?
No. Because, while the process of independent, self-publishing is very hard at the least, I actually find it to be somewhat of a positive challenge. But my views of self-publishing and the reasons for why I chose this route is for another time.
Nevertheless, here is a brief summary:
Symbol of Aura |
Jason Sykes, an easy-going, average American young adult, has always heard stories from his father concerning alien abductions and extraterrestrial encounters, but he never expected them to be true, let alone be abducted himself. While he only remembers dream-like fragments of the encounter, the burning changes occurring within his body, as well as his untamed, supernatural abilities, confirm the visions to be true. Reality soon settles in when he is hunted and captured by Mr. Chambers, a fraudulent agent who works for a special paranormal investigation team.
Hope seems lost for Jason until a brilliant astrophysicist, Dr. Derek Myles, comes to examine him, and soon finds Jason to be more intriguing than he originally imagined. Feeling that Jason is special and can pose as a potential benefit toward humanity, Dr. Myles vows to help him learn and understand his new powers. However, as Jason dives more into his foreign abilities, his body begins to change and he experiences cryptic, hallucinogenic messages. His powers eventually overtake him, bringing him on the verge of death. While in an obscured vision quest for balance, Jason learns that death is needed for new life.
Jason awakens a new person--powerful, alluring, regal, and godly. He seems the same as he was before, but different--human, but alien. He now realizes his powers do not control him, but he can control them. With the help of his friends, Nathan, Jennifer, and Destani, and a unique, alien outfit that displays the symbol of his power, Jason gains new confidence when he is forced to utilize his abilities to be a hero. As his status heightens from unknown hero to super hero, he is suddenly confronted by an enigmatically cloaked female who warns him that ‘danger is coming’.
What danger is coming, and will he be able to stop it?
